When honoring our mothers this special Sunday each May, the first question that may pop up in our minds is: ‘What should I get her?’. Through every laugh and every cry, she is my shoulder to lean on. Though we may not get along all of the time, I know she will always be there for me. She’s the strongest and most compassionate person I will ever know. I can confidently say that she knows me the best out of anyone-maybe even myself sometimes. My mom and I have a very special relationship. But if we learn anything from the Bible, it is that motherhood is a special calling. Maybe mothers aren’t all perfect saints and maybe they don’t all give birth to the next Messiah, but each of them are spoken about with the utmost respect in biblical text.īeing a mother is truly one of the hardest jobs one can take on. Whether you are religious or not, this is something we all should practice. Our mothers should not only feel respected, but also appreciated. In the Bible, specifically the fifth of the Ten Commandments, God tells us that we should honor our mother. She acts as a role model to all my mothers, as well as a calming spirit to those who seek maternal comfort. As the mother of Jesus, she took on this role with an immense amount of courage and grace. We hear of many remarkable mothers in scripture, but perhaps Mother Mary is the prominent of the maternal figures in the Bible. Although Mother’s Day itself is a relatively modern concept, ‘mother’s day scripture’ has lived in the Word of God since the beginning. However, most mothers do share one thing in common: an unconditional and fearless love for their children.Ĭelebrating your mother, grandmother, aunt, or any maternal figure you look to is a special opportunity to show them how much you love and appreciate them. The word “mother” means something different for everyone-of course, there’s different types of mothers and maternal figures, but we will most likely picture our own mother and the unique relationship we share with them. Such a short and simple word with so much power and meaning. It does not insist on its own way it is not irritable or resentful it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Proverbs 22:6 - Train up a child in the way he should go even when he is old he will not depart from it.ġ Corinthians 13:4-7 - Love is patient and kind love does not envy or boast it is not arrogant or rude.
